Astros Could Make Another Serious Second-Half Bid for a Playoff Berth

Roger Clemens is back, and the Houston Astros made a splash by trading for Aubrey Huff on Wednesday. Huff has a history of starting slowly in April and May before becoming a solid second-half performer. And we all know what Clemens can do. Recent history suggests the Astros may be poised to make their way back into the National League Central race. They posted the best second-half record in the NL in 2005, going 45-30 on their way to the World Series. The Astros, in fact, have been a solid second-half club over the previous three seasons. They are 130-87 (.599) over that span, and only two NL teams -- the Braves and Cardinals -- have been better (both 131-86, .604). Perhaps Huff and the return of Clemens can give Houston the kind of spark that Carlos Beltran provided a year ago.
