Is Sizemore Prepared to Build on His Breakout 2006 Season?

Cleveland center fielder Grady Sizemore collected a major league-best 92 extra-base hits in 2006 -- with an American League-high 53 doubles, 11 triples and 28 home runs. Repeating that kind of performance may seem improbable, considering no one in the last 30 years has had more extra-base hits in a season as a center fielder than Sizemore. In that span, only Brady Anderson in 1996 and Ken Griffey Jr. in 1998 can match his total.

Yet, Sizemore has opened the season by going 4-for-10 with five runs scored and two home runs. He didn’t hit his second homer until May 4 last season, exactly a month later than when he delivered No. 2 in 2007. Sizemore was a consistent run producer throughout the 2006 season, never struggling for a significant stretch. Does his steady performance suggest he may be prepared for an even bigger season this summer? The 24-year-old star may display a new-found power stroke that would build on his career-high 28 home runs of a year ago. Perhaps maintaining or building on the standard he set in 2006 isn’t so unreasonable after all.
