Spurs Eke Out 107-106 Win to Maintain Home Mastery of Warriors

Winning in San Antonio is something the Golden State Warriors haven’t done in 12 years. They came close Tuesday night, dropping a 107-106 decision when Spurs guard Roger Mason sank the go-ahead jumper with 23.8 seconds left.

It marked the first time that the Warriors had lost by less than a double-digit deficit in San Antonio since January 2003, as Monta Ellis sparked the Warriors with 27 points. The Warriors actually held a 106-105 lead with 33.9 second remaining, after the ball was stripped from Spurs star Tim Duncan and Kelenna Azubuike scooped up the loose ball and went in for an easy layup.

The Spurs had lost their two previous games, but Mason made sure they didn’t match their longest losing streak of the season, when the Spurs dropped their first three games of the season.

The Warriors will have to settle for the moral victory in a competitive performance that has been rare in San Antonio. That’s little comfort, as Mason’s jumper gave the Spurs their 22nd consecutive home win over Golden State.

That’s the NBA’s longest active home winning streak against a single team. The Spurs shared the distinction with the Phoenix Suns, who have 21 straight home wins over the Milwaukee Bucks, but now they have the longest active streak to themselves.
