Without KG, Celtics Host Other Beasts of the East -- Cavs and Magic -- This Weekend
Celtics coach Doc Rivers announced Friday that Kevin Garnett will be out at least another week, rehabbing the sprained right knee he suffered Feb. 19 in Utah. The good news is that the 6-foot-11 star ran on a treadmill on Thursday and reportedly felt “great” before Boston’s Friday night showdown with the Eastern Conference-leading Cavaliers.
The Celtics, who had split the six games leading up to and including the loss in which Garnett was hurt, have won four of six without him. That includes three of four games on the road, as the Celtics won convincingly at both Phoenix and Denver soon after Garnett went down and defeated the Nets in New Jersey Wednesday night, 115-111.
Boston’s scoring hasn’t dropped off without Garnett. Maybe it isn’t a complete surprise that it’s risen a bit with the reigning Defensive Player of the Year sidelined.

The Celtics have tallied 128, 114, 104 and 105 points in their four victories, and their bump in points per game without Garnett is nearly identical to the extra points they have allowed.
The weekend won’t be an easy one for the 48-14 Celtics. After Cleveland (48-12) departs, Orlando (45-16) comes to town for a Sunday matinee.
