Here Come the Ducks!
The Buffalo Sabres and Minnesota Wild caught our attention for their fast starts in October. Now that the Sabres and Wild have been brought back to earth with a pair of losses each in the last 10 days, the Anaheim Ducks are worthy of some attention in November. The NHL season is now more than a month old and no team has beaten the 11-0-4 Ducks in regulation. The Ducks have earned at least one point in each of their first 15 games, tying an NHL record for most consecutive games with at least one point to start a season. They have tied the 1984-85 Oilers (15) after surpassing the 1943-44 Canadiens (14), 1994-95 Penguins (13) and 1972-73 Canadiens (13). It's a far different era with 30 teams in the league today, but perhaps it's worth mentioning that three of the four teams listed here won the Stanley Cup after running off a string of points to start their seasons. Those Oilers and both Canadien teams won the last game of the season and celebrated a championship. Could it be the Ducks' turn to start fast and finish strong?
