Jagr Joins 600-Goal Club

It didn't take Jaromir Jagr long to collect goal No. 600 Sunday night, as the New York Rangers' wing found the net just 1:43 into a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Jagr is the 16th player in NHL history to score 600 goals. Only two players in the 600-goal club have played fewer games than Jagr, who reached the milestone in 1,130 contests with the Penguins, Capitals and Rangers. Only former teammate Mario Lemieux has as many as 600 goals in fewer than 1,000 games played -- he needed just 915 to finish with 690 goals -- and Bobby Hull recorded 610 in 1,063 games. Jagr, who is one goal shy of tying Jari Kurri for 15th place on the all-time list, has scored 0.53 goals per game over his career, the seventh-highest mark among the members of the 600-goal club. The club's leaders in goals per game are Super Mario (0.75) and Wayne Gretzky (0.60, with an all-time high 894 goals in 1,487 games). It's likely that Joe Sakic will be the next to join the fraternity of 600-goal scorers. The Colorado star has 583 career tallies, and he's averaged 0.46 a game. That average would rank 12th if he were a current member of the club.
