Game announcement

We are aware of several scoring issues that plagued some PlayTheGame leagues on Monday morning. These have now been rectified and we are happy to assure all of our players that the integrity of our scoring mechanism has been restored.

Richard Chadwick:

Hi

I see that you've managed to rectify the problem. Our league still hasn't updated..?

Cheers

Richard

Alex Fuller:

My scoring issues haven't been resolved. Geovanni and Tuncay stil have not been awarded their points from Saturday!

Graham:

None of the points earned in games that took place on Sunday have yet been added into the team scores. When will they be updated?

PlayTheGame Admin:

Graham, Alex, Richard - The scoring issues plaguing the game have been rectified and the majority of leagues will have seen this though a small percentage may be lagging behind as the system works through all of the leagues. This should now be complete for all leagues.

Alex Fuller:

They haven't been fixed yet in our league, though I suppose that may be because the system hasn't got to us yet. Although it does occur to me that the "issue plaguing the game" that you have fixed may be different problems to the two I have, which are:

1) A few players from Saturday (Geovanni, Tuncay...) not having any stats at all despite having played; and

2) No players stats from Sunday have been included in the league table, despite the players themselves having been assigned these stats.

Alex

PlayTheGame Admin:

Alex - those are precisely the problems we were encountering across the game.

Alex Fuller:

OK, that's good.

Number 2) seems alright now anyway - Sunday's players contributions have now beeen included in the table and everything has been updated accordingly. It's still not all accurate though as number 1) is still not sorted - at least those two players still have no stats. But I'm sure that's just about to right itself too....

Chris Perks:

Matthew Taylor is credited with 9 in AGA for the saturday game, is that correct? Or is it part of the scroing glitches we have been experiencing? I didn't think Pompey had nine put past them on Saturday!!

PlayTheGame: The Average Goals Against statistic is expressed as a figure per 90 minutes. Matthew Taylor came on for ten minutes on Saturday during which time Portsmouth conceded a goal. Thus, Taylor's AGA is 1 goal in 10 mins or 9 as a figure expressed over 90 minutes.

Shaun Finnie:

I'm writing this on Monday night. We're still waiting some player updates for Saturday (all Newcastle's squad for example) and none of us have yet received a single email regarding player movement, despite some transactions being well over the required 48 hours notice period. A disappointing start to a league we were looking forwards to.

PlayTheGame: Statistics were slow to update after the weekend's matches but all of these - without exception - were done. Regarding player movement, the game does not send out e-mail updates of player movement but you can view all transactions on your league home page or the Transaction History page.

Shaun Finnie:

Could you please tell me how Franck Quedrue can have an Average Goals Against of 5.51 when the only game that Birmingham have played so far is their 3-2 loss to Chelsea? Or how Newcastle's Martins can have an AGF of 3.91 after one game?

Thanks

Rich:

Where's the assists for pedersen and howard?? or are they discounted by some form of technicality...?

Salam Mannan:

Kalou assisted in one of Chelsea's goals on Sunday 12th but this has not been creditied to him.

Thanks

Salam

PlayThegame: Salomon Kalou has indeed been creditted with one assist in Chlesea's match against Birmingham.

Pete:

Our league has updated with the missing points from Sunday, thanks for that.

However, as Alex point out above Geovanni definitely played on Saturday (he scored), but has no points assigned to him yet.

Mike:

I'm finding it quite hard to navigate around the game.

Things I would like to know how to do (or see added):
Cumulative stats for all my players on one screen (ie not just the individual scoring for one day)

A page where I can compare all players in the league for stats (ie to help when making transfers)

Stats for the free agent players

This could be a great game (I play quite a bit of fantasy baseball & american football), but at the moment it appears just a bit too complicated, and slightly unwieldy - I'm sure you guys will iron out the kinks as you go on though!

Rodney Patterson:

There may be another technical glich relating to the "adding" of out- of-contract players. In the help section it says added players are available immediately as active members of your squad. This has not been the case with my 4 attempts to pick up players so far, two of which (Adel Taarabt & Craig Gorden) were subsequently aquired by other managers! What's going on guys?

PlayTheGame Admin:

Shaun - Franck Queudrue's Average Goal Against is indeed 5.51. The AGA is a figure expressed on the basis of 90 minutes. In Queudrue's example, the Frenchman was on the pitch for 49 minutes during which time his team allowed three goals. Three in 49 is 5.51 per 90. The figure for Martin's AGF is calculated in the same manner.

Alex Fuller:

Geovanni of Man City and Tuncay of Middlesborough still have not had their stats from Saturday attributed to them.... is this going to be fixed soon?

Alex

Richard Thompson:

Hi, Pedersen hasn't got his assist for Saturday's game...?

PlayTheGame Admin:

Richard - All 14 of the active player slots including the three sub positions are limited to 38 plays per season.

Pete:

Is there any update on when the issue 1) described by Alex above is likely to be resolved?

Chris Perks:

If all the game data has updated, then there are still issues as Geovanni's data has not been updated. Is this being looked into?

PlayTheGame Admin:

Rodney - All out-of-contract players are on notice for 48 hours after player allocation. During that time, managers can lodge claims on out-of-contract players. At the end of the 48-hour period, the game uses the Notice Priority to award players to teams. After the 48 hour period passes all out-of-contract players can be picked up immediately.

Shaun Finnie:

Thanks for the answers, they make sense. However I'm writing this on Tuesday night and we still have very few players updated for Sunday's games. Are we just unlucky - at the end of the update queue?

Pete:

Apologies for sounding like a broken record, but would it be possible for you to answer the question asked by Alex Fuller and myself regarding missing scores for some players who played on Saturday.

Geovanni and Kaboul definitely both played, but have no points assigned to them yet.

It is not going to be much fun if we can't guarantee that players scores will be included.

Thanks very much.

Pete.

Greg:

i was wondering if there is going to be a page where we can view the player stats for games already played, or at least see who scored and who was awarded the assist for goals?

david konyot:

why do we not get our allocation until
august 31st? I joined before the opening game and surely missing 3/4 games will affect my chances of winning the league

Harvey:

Im sure that our league scores are wrong.

I just wanted someone to look over the point scoring for our mini league.

It seems wrong.

Pete:

I see the points for Saturday have now arrived.
Thanks very much!

Pete.

John Painter:

I released a player I did not want anymore creating an empty space in my team. I cannot add a player into this empty slot - how can I go about sorting this out as I'm missing out on points.

PlayTheGame Admin:

Shaun, Rich, Alex, Richard, Pete, Chris, Harvey - The game's scoring has been checked, double checked and checked again and all of the teams within all the leagues have had the statistics flushed and re-run to ensure that no cached records exist. Many thanks for your patience as we worked out the kinks.

eddie allen:

Team pages are still showing that Villa and Blackburn players are playing today. The fixtures must be better kept up to date as not all managers will be getting this information from other sources

Ben:

Two things I'd like to be able to do:

1) See my squad players' cumulative scores for season on one page, as opposed to just for each single day.

2) Each position can only be used 38 times in a season. Can you show on the squad selection page the no. of times each position has been 'played' in for the season, and hence how many games each position has left. This will be vital later in the season for ensuring the 38 'starts' each position has are a) fully used, and b) put to the best use.

Jake Thomas:

I'm in 3 different leagues - and in 2 of them I can acquire players from the out of contract pool - however - we are still unable to acquire players immediately in the 3rd (all leagues were allocated last Friday).

Also - is there any way of creating a way of viewing players by goal scorers, assists, clean sheets etc? - perhaps having it in tabular form so that you can see who has scored most goals - most asists, most clean sheets etc.

PlayTheGame Admin:

John - The game does not allow managers to drop players without replacing them so it is not possible for you to have dropped a player and been caught short as a result. It may be that the replacement player is on your bench in which case you will need to place him in a point-scoring position. You can do this on the My Team screen.

seami:

any chance of changing the order of the 'team lineups' page at the moment its: gk,for,cb,cm,lb,lm,rb,rm,subs

i'd welcome the more traditional gk,rb,cb,lb,rm,cm,lm,for, subs

PlayTheGame Admin:

David - The player allocation date is set by the league creator when the league is set up. If your league is private and has reached the number of teams specified, the league's creator can change the date. If it is a public league, the date cannot be changed. Regardless, scoring for your league will commence after your league is formed (ie the fixtures that have already been played will not count though that will not matter because all the teams within the league will start at the same time - the value of some players whose clubs have more fixtures remaining may change slightly as a result).

PlayTheGame Admin:

Greg - You can view the day-by-day statistics for players on your team using the Team Stats page under My Team. For other players (those that are either out-of-contract or on another team) you can view their performance thus far either via their individual profile pages or the Statistics page under Research.

Gerard:

Hi, just wondering if certain players alternative positions are being updated?

For example, in my team Muntari played LM at the weekend yet he is still only available for CM or RM . Also Elano played CM when he is only available for LM/RM.

I'm sure it said in the rules that this sort of thing would be updated, I'd just like to clarify.

Thanks, Gerard

PlayTheGame Admin:

Ben - The season to date functionality you mentioned will be available shortly on the Team Stats page within the My Team section. In the meantime you can see multiple palyers' performances on the Statistics page in the Research section.

Regarding your second point, the number of times each of the scoring positions has been used is already displayed on the site. You can see this on the My Team page in the column on the left.

PlayTheGame Admin:

Eddie - the fixtures section of the game and indeed the database that feeds the player and team pages are constantly updated. The Villa and Blackburn info you mention has most certainly been updated.

ben:

does anyone know how to find out your email adress because i cant remember mine so i cant log in

PlayTheGame Admin:

Jake - You are able to immediately pick up all out-of-contract players in all three of your leagues. It may be that you are attempting to add a player that was just dropped by another team. Any time a player is released by a team in the league, that player goes on notice for 48 hours.

As for your other question, you can view players sorted by individual statistical category on the Statistics page (under Research).

PlayTheGame Admin:

Gerard - Players' position eligibility is under constant review and new positions are added as players appear in them. Should a playuer not be eligible at a certain position that you disagree with, please feel free to contact us and we will investigate.

alexb:

I'm in a league of 20 teams so basically all the players in the out of contract pickup have either left their clubs ages ago or can barely make it onto a Derby or Sunderland bench. I have Arjen Robben, a class player, so surely it is highely flawed that if he leaves the only options to replace him are these sub-standard pick-ups. Chelsea may well buy Daniel Alves from Robben's money so surely the game should allow something similar.

Pete:

Regarding Gerard's point about player positions, you currently have Elano Bulmar only eligible for LM & RM, however he seems to have been playing CM for City's first two games this season.

Pete:

Also, talking of Man City players, you don't seem to have Michael Johnson available to pick, let alone have his scores.

Chris:

Are there any plans to add new players such as Utaka of Pompey?

Bryan:

Aston Villa player Craig Gardner played RB last sunday, can this be added to his position list?

Alex:

I was just wondering when we will be able to see the number of times a position has been played on the team page? I think I read somewhere this would happen?
Thanks, Alex

James Duffy:

Further to your response to Gerard on 15/8/07 17.32:

Eboue has played at RM for at least 4 games this season (including the most recent premiership and champions lg games). Will he have RM added to one of his positions? If so, will he continue to accrue points as a defender, even if picked in midfield?

Also, didn't Hreidarsson get an assist for Portsmouth on Saturday?

Many thanks,

James
