Players to watch - con't

It may be that Tom Dart, our next contributor to this list, wanted to ensure that his selections were original. Then again maybe he really does think that the likes of West Ham, Derby County and Sunderland could be harbouring PlayTheGame talent. Either way his list of five includes players unlikely to figure in many managers' plans and thus potentially represent what those in betting circles refer to as value.

Tom's list in full:Dean Ashton - His injury hell over, the 23-year-old is primed to remind West Ham fans what they’ve been missing and elbow his way into the England reckoning.

Giles Barnes - Might miss a month with a foot injury, but this 19-year-old winger is the one Derby County player worth considering.

Damien Duff - Duff by name and duff by nature last season but might rediscover some of the sparkling form he showed at Blackburn Rovers now Big Sam is in Toon.

Carlos Edwards - Pace never has an off day, and the Trinidad and Tobago winger boasts it in abundance, as well as a decent eye for goal.

Emmanuel Eboue - Has been pushed up the pitch with Bakary Sagna’s arrival at full back, making him a prime candidate for assists and the odd goal in Arsenal’s flair-stacked line-up.

And so our list thus far is as follows:
Robin Van Persie (Arsenal)
Sulley Muntari (Portsmouth)
Andriy Voronin (Liverpool)
David Healy (Fulham)
David Bentley (Blackburn Rovers)
Luke Moore (Aston Villa)
Adel Taarabt (Tottenham)
Darren Bent (Tottenham)
Michael Dawson (Tottenham)
Joey Barton (Newcastle United)
Shay Given (Newcastle United)
Kieran Richardson (Sunderland) x2
Emmanuel Eboue (Arsenal) x2
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United)
Shaun Wright-Phillips (Chelsea)
Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham)
Gareth Bale (Tottenham)
Steven Reid (Blackburn)
Eduardo da Silva (Arsenal)
Martin Petrov (Manchester City)
Dean Ashton (West Ham)
Giles Barnes (Derby County)
Damien Duff (Newcastle)
Carlos Edwards (Sunderland)
