Scoring clarification

In response to a number of queries concerning the awarding of assists for own goals, please note our definition of an assist:
- An "assist" is defined as a "Successful pass" which subsequently results in a goal being scored by the "receiver" without him losing possession of the ball although in the passage to goal it may be deviated by the goalkeeper or a defender.

Please also note that a "Successful pass" is defined as the movement of the ball from one player (the "passer") to another player (the receiver") where the receiver is a member of the same team as the passer who controls or touches the ball legally without any prior interference or deflection by any player from the opposing team.

As such, no assists are awarded for own goals.

reed:

Opta's stats are standard. Yours are not. And a good game should use the standard stats. Just have a look Fantasy Premier League.

PTG: Reed, awarding assists for own goals is counter-intutive - how can passing to an opponent be counted as an assist on the back of the opponent's misfortune?

james:

that does not make any sense as some own goals, are created by a great cross

PTG: fair enough but that would not qualify as a successfull pass and as such would not constitute an assist for the purpposes of PTG scoring.

GDK:

I hope you don't mind me asking another scoring related question?

Some players can fill multiple roles in a team and I'm wondering how they actually score in the game

For example: if I have a midfielder who I pick at fullback, but in the actual Premiership game he ends up playing midfield...do I still score the points in clean sheets and other defence categories?

Sorry if I missed this question being asked before.

PTG: GDK, if a player is eligible in both scoring bands (ie positions within the goalkeeper/defender band and the midfield/forward band) he will score in the five scoring categories associated with the position he fills on your PTG team.

Sweeney:

This just seems stupid to me, if a player plays a great ball in, which then makes a defender throw himself at the ball to stop a striker shooting and in the process puts the ball past his keeper, the crosser created the goal, by forcing a error. But your system doesn't reward the crosser in anyway for good play but probably does for the defender who'll I'd assume get a point for a block? I think you need to apply a bit of logic to your scoring system football isn't simply black and white figures!

Neil Sageman:

Excellent idea for the game and hoping next year will be the best on the market.
Ease of team picking needs to be improved, guess format of Premier League game to be used.
Actual overall rating of player needs to be easier to access. You can do it for the season so why not as we go on?
Interpretating how well each player is doing is far too difficult.
Overal though its a great idea and hope can improve. Glad The Times have been brave enough to do something different.

Steve Quinn:

Why is Mathieu Flamini not available at LB when he spent an entire season with Arsenal filling that role?

Obviously it is not his preferred position but it is no different to Essien playing CB.

PTG: Steve, unlike Essien, Flamini has not appeared at left back in a Premier League fixture this season.

Handles:

This game is the worst fantasy league game I have ever played. It is so boring and so badly planned.

Lorcan:

I think this is a great fantasy game. Makes it more interesting than previous one when everyone would just buy Henry and then a host of rubbish players and then win. Also, its great that you don't end up playing against 1000s of other people. In my league of 9 people, there is a realistic chance of coming top.

Although, it would be nice if there was a chart that showed you your positions over each week of the season. This way one could see how long they had been top, for example.
