New players and eligibility

With the influx of new players into PTG and the increased number of players who are gaining extra positional eligibility, it's a good time to clarify the rules...

NEW PLAYERS
A new player will be added to PTG when he has made his debut for his club in a Premier League match. This will be the case if a player makes his debut at the kick-off or as a substitute.

Appearances in the F.A. Cup, League Cup or European matches do not count for the purposes of PlayTheGame

When a Player is added to PTG he will be added in the position at which he made his debut.

In the scenario where a player is added in the wrong position, his correct position will be added, however due to technical reasons, the incorrect position will not be removed.

ADDED POSITIONAL ELIGIBILITY
A player will only be given positional eligibility if he plays at the start of a Premier League match in a new position.

If a player comes on as a substitute in a different position to those in which he is currently eligible, this will not count towards positional eligibility.

Position eligibility is only based on positions played in the 2007/08 Premier League season

If a player is given eligibility in the incorrect position, his correct position will be added, however due to technical reasons, the incorrect position will not be removed.

Pete:

The game seems to have a very annoying bug in the transfers.

I have just added Radek Cerny to my squad. It is now 1pm and the Tottenham game is not due to start until 3pm, however Cerny is not available in my squad until Sunday. As you can see, I swapped out a player who is not playing today:

Armchairster City Out-of-contract pickup Radek Cerny Bench 2/09/2008 12:48 PM BST
Armchairster City Release Kelvin Etuhu FOR 2/09/2008 12:48 PM BST

The any other players I now swap are also not available for my squad until Sunday. Please can you explain why this is happening. I understand that Players from the early game (Villa vs Newcastle) are locked, but why my transfers?

PTG: This is not a bug. As it states at the top of the Add/Release page 'Players added within five minutes of a day's first fixture or later will not appear in your lineup until the next day.' This rule has been in place since the start of the season.

dan:

come on guys wheres the new players who debuted on saturday, they aren't on the list yet!

PTG: Players who make their debuts over a weekend get added to PTG on a Monday.

Adam:

Where is afonso alves? He came on a sub for Boro at the weekend

PTG: Alves has now been added to PTG. Players who make their debut over a weekend tend to be added to PTG on the following Monday.

tom e:

Anelka played on the wide right for chelski at the weekend when pizarro came on, any chance of adding an elgibility for him as a midfielder?

PTG: As stated in the post you have commented on, for players like Anelka who have already made their Premier League debut, eligibility is only added if a player starts a game in a differnet position at the time the match kicks off.

rod:

Whilst the Game is very good at adding new players who have made their debut, it isn't quite as good at removing players who are retired or no longer play in the Premiership. Why are Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Albert Luque, Jose Antonio Reyes for example still eligible to be traded? This is ridiculous!

PTG: Once a player has been added to the game they cannot be removed during the season. The original player list was loaded in July which is why these players appear despite no longer being associated with a Premier Legaue club

Warky:

Elano Blumer started as right back against Pompey for City on 20/04/08. By the above rules that means he should now be eligible as RB and DEF/GK SUB - please update him asap!

PTG: Elano Blumer now has RB eligibility.
