Joey Barton

All season we have had regular inquiries about when we would be adding Joey Barton to PlayTheGame 2008/09. Up until now we have decided to reserve judgment regarding the addition of this player until it became clearer where Mr. Barton's future lay.

As you will probably have noticed, the player is back in the news having appeared for the Newcastle reserves on Tuesday, and it seems clear that Barton will have a role to play in Newcastle's battle to get out of the relegation zone. If you have no idea what we are talking about, have a read of this article.

As a result we have re-activated Joey Barton's participation in PlayTheGame as of 15:54 BST on October 23. If you want to add Barton to your team, please be aware that he will be subject to the usual 48 hour notice period to give everyone a fair chance to sign him.

It is important to note that Joey Barton is not a new player to PTG. He was a participant in the 2007/08 edition of PlayTheGame and has not left the Premier League to permanently join another club. Therefore we are simply re-activating the players profile within the game now that he has come back from his extended suspension.

Adam:

Why has S Wright Phillips not been credited with any assists for Robinho's second goal yesterday? He made the pass to Robinho did he not?

Secondly, should Adebayor not be credited with an assist for Faubert's own goal?

PTG - It was Daniel Sturridge of Man City who provided the assists for both Robinho's second and third goals. For more details see the match report - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/article5018935.ece
No assists are given for own goals

Matt:

Just a quick rule question: If a transfer with an uneven number of players being transferred takes place, does the team with now less than 20 players have to pickup player(s) to return to 20 players, or may they stick with less than 20 players and not be penalised? I know that if a squad has more than 20 players, they must drop enough players to reduce them to 20 or they cannot score points, but does this apply to less than 20 players?
Strange question, I know, but one I'm interested to find out the answer to.
Great game, the best fantasy league around!

PTG - If a transfer takes place that leaves you with less than 20 squad members then you will not be penalised, however we would recommendt that you look to maintain a squad of 20 players.

stewart kane:

Why did i loose one point when i had no one playing. On Tuesday 28th i had 58 points then after the newcastle V west brom match i have 57 points why?

PTG - Whilst we are not able to comment on your specific situation, the reason you will have less points is because other managers in your league had players who were playing in the Newcastle - West Brom match.

Therefore there will be one or two scoring categories in which someone else is now doing better than you after last nights game. You should be able to easily identify which categories in which you now have less points in the 'league tables by category' page under the 'league' tab, although you will need to look before Wednesdays matches. It is important to remember that PTG works on a rotisserie scoring system, not a cumulative scoring system. Take a look at section 15.3 of the rules for further explanation.

Adam:

Is there any chance of a Nicky Shorey assist for Luke Young's goal, given that it was his cross which provided the chance for Young?

PTG - Whilst Nicky Shorey crossed the ball in from the wing that led to the Luke Young goal, there is actually a goalmouth scramble where Young takes a shot which rebounds off a Blackburn defender and then Young knees the ball into the back of the net. As a result of the defensive interference Shorey is not awarded an assist under the rules of PTG.

JC:

Onuoha played left-back for Man City against Middlesbrough. Please could you update position eligibility. Thanks.

PTG - It is our belief that Onuoha actually started the match at Right Back and therefore we will not be updating positional eligibility at this time.
