January Transfer Window

AMMENDMENT 05/01/09 - The transfer window has now been extended to 5pm on Monday February 2nd 2009

There have been a number of queries about what will happen regarding the addition of players to PTG during the Premiers League's January transfer window.

Since the close of the initial transfer window on September 1st, players have been added to the game as they make their debuts in the Premier League, or when a player has become active again in the Premier League.

During January we will look to add players as and when they are signed to Premier League clubs following the process detailed below.

Players will only be added to the game when they are officially confirmed as having signed for a new club. Newspaper or Website reports that a player has signed for a club do not necessarily indicate that a player has officially signed and we will not add players until official confirmation is received. Players will be added at our discretion.

The first day that we will look to add players to PTG will be January 7th 2009. This will mean that any players who have transferred prior to this date will be available to be picked for the first Premier League fixtures of the year on the 10th January (after the usual 48 hour notice period). From the 7th January onwards, players will be added to PTG every weekday towards the end of each day. Players will be added as a group each day and a blog post will be published to indicate what players have been added and at what time so that managers are aware of when the 48 hour notice period will expire.

If a player is signed to a club after the player upload for that day, that player will be added to PTG in the next available player upload. For example, the players that are uploaded on a Monday will be all those players signed in the latter stages of Friday, Saturday, Sunday and the majority of Monday (i.e. no players will be uploaded at a weekend.)

Each day, all new players processed will be added to the game at the same time, which means that all players 48 hour notice period will end at exactly the same time. However, the time at which allocation happens in individual leagues will not be exactly the same time though as the system does not run the allocation for all leagues at exactly the same time. Therefore some leagues will get slightly longer than 48 hours to claim the players.

If more than one player is added per day and you are looking to sign more than one player from that day's players you should make sure that the player you want the most is at the top of your pending claims list. If you are trying to sign players from more than one days additions then you should order your players in your preference by day, so players added on the 7th January should be ordered at the top, above players added on the 8th January.

Your pending claims can be seen on the 'Out-of-Contract Players' page under the 'League' tab. If more than one manager in a league wants to sign a player then the player will be awarded to the manager who is highest in the Notice Priority List. You can look at your position within the notice priority list by again going to the 'Out-of-Contract Players' page and clicking the link underneath the Pending Claims' box

The January transfer window runs from Thursday 1st January until Saturday 31st January. The first player upload will take place on the 7th January and the last upload on Monday February 2nd. There may be some players who sign before the deadline, but are awaiting work permits (as happened with a couple of West Ham players in August). If required, these players will be added in the first week of February.

We will use our discretion as to whether a player gets added to PTG. For example if a 16 year old is signed to a Premier League club, but has no real chance of playing during the season, that player will not necessarily be added to the game.

Now all we have to do is wait and see who Man City open up their cheque book for....

On times player news it is stated that arbeloa got the assist for robbie keane's goal against arsenal. Why has Agger been awarded the assist instead of Arbeloa?

PTG - This is a mistake, the assist was provided by Agger.

Nic:

A couple of assist queries from Saturday. Can Andrew O'Brien's assist to Matty Taylor be added please? Also, I notice Shay Given was credited with an assist when the Spurs defender clearly got a foot on the ball back away from the Newcastle goal before N'Zogbia regained possession and scored....it doesn't sound like an assist the way the rules read? (ie. goes on to score the goal without losing possession of the ball.) Sorry to be picky, it's just that defensive scoring is so hard to come by ;)

PTG - After reviewing the match footage, Andrew O'Brien has been awarded with an assist and the assist for Shay Given has been removed

JC:

Can Kieran Richardson be given CM eligibility? He has played there several times for Sunderland this season.

PTG - Richardson is already eligible as a CM

Nicko Stather!:

I bloomin love this game!

Quick Question, Ryan Shawcross played RB for Stoke against Blackburn on Saturday....With it being the season of good will and all, and chance of changing him so he has this eligibility?

Keep up the good work, and have a very merry Christmas

PTG - Shawcross now has RB eligibility

Ozzy:

I would like to query PTG for awarding Shay Given an assist in the match Newcastle vs Tottenham. As for the goal of Charles NZogbia. He was tackled after receiving the ball from Shay Given. N'Zogbia retrieved the ball from the defender and then scored. So please could you rectify your Decision

PTG - This was rectified in last nights scoring run.

Gordon:

Chelsea played 4-3-3 against Everton with Deco, Drogba and Anelka as forwards. Can you please add "Forward" to Deco's playing positions?

PTG - Deco will have FW eligibility added soon.

Richard:

You know what I've just thought would be brilliant (though I'm sure we'll soon see if I'm the only one...), is the listing of each players scoring in each game that they've played on their individual player page, thus providing that helping hand on whether or not they are on top form or not, as well as providing a bit more of a clearer picture regards them being in the team or not for all those lazy persons out there. But then again...could just be me...

david foster:

what will happen with diarra

PTG - After his move to Real Madrid, we would suggest anyone that has Diarra in their squad should look to replace him.

J:

Does Given get the assist for Newcastle's goal against Spurs even though the defender gets the last touch?

PTG - The simple answer is no, because as you state, the defender got the last touch.

John:

Jack Collison has started at RM for West Ham. Could you update his position eligibility? Thanks.

PTG - Collison now has RM eligibility

Nic:

"PTG - After reviewing the match footage, Andrew O'Brien has been awarded with an assist and the assist for Shay Given has been removed"

Hey guys...just a heads up the above from 20th/21st Dec games hasn't updated yet?

PTG - All stats for Given and O'Brien are now correct

adam:

putting players recent form in it would be an excelent idea

Stuart James:

January Transfer Window -

As administrator for our league, I have received a few queries regarding how the transfer window is going to take place.

My initial thought was to have one night in the beginning of February 09 (once the 31st January deadline has gone) then have an auction similar to how we picked players at the start of the season.

My question therefore, is there a cut off date when we need to inform you of player changes to individual teams? If so we will have to have the auction in plenty of time so I can send you the team amendments.

Thanks, we are all really enjoying the format - the insults continue to fly around our league!

PTG - There is no set up within the game for offline leagues to 'manually' distribute players. If all managers within your league are in agreement you would need to make sure that no managers bid for any players during January and then wait until all notice periods had expired. You could then have a night where you get together and decide who gets what player, but you would need everyone there and able to access their teams online in order to facilitate. If you then have an auction, when you decide that manager 1 gets player 1, that manager would then need to login and sign that player and so on - each manager would need to login to sign a player that it was agreed he would get. This could get complicated, but if you give it a go, let us know how you get on, otherwise you will need to follow the normal procedure detailed in the post.

Richard Bowden:

Can I just check please, for example, if I had Lampard active in my team for a Saturday game at 3pm and he scored a hat-trick but then, at 5pm, I took him out of the side to replace him with somebody who was playing at 5.30pm, would I collect his points for scoring still?
Also, same goes for taking him out on Sunday morning, would I still get the points?

Reason being, my team has been scoring a lot of goals recently and other teams around me aren't getting many. My clean sheets are pretty healthy too but I am getting less points each week and moving down the table. I can't understand it at all and am thinking that maybe I'm not getting the points because I'm taking my players out before the points are awarded (as I'm regularly substituting players to get the most out of my team).

Thanks, hope you understand that!

PTG - If you had a player in the Right Midfield position, who was playing in a 3pm Saturday Kick-Off, the Right Midfield position would become 'locked' until the following day, so you would not be able to put a different player into the Right Midfield position for a 5.30pm Saturday Kick-Off. Once the scoring for Saturday has been completed all the locked posirtions will be unlocked and you are then free to change your players for Sunday games with no affect on your Saturday scores.

If you believe you have a particular problem with scoring, please contact customer services using the 'Contact Us' functionality under the 'Home' tab and give as much detail as possible, including your league and team name.

Nick Harcombe:

Please be aware in your allocation plans that the transfer window has been extended until midnight on Monday 2nd Feb at the request of the clubs. This is to avoid the window closing on a Sat/Sun.

PTG - Thanks for pointing this out - we have put an amendment at the top of the blog post and will also put a separate note on the blog so everyone is clear.

Majid:

Can Ramsey be given CM eligibility, he did play there against Aston Villa on Boxing day for Arsenal.

PTG - Ramsey now has CM eligibility.

zumba:

rather than adding players daily during the transfer window now and before the season starts it may make the process easier and fairer for the players if you batch load on a weekly basis so those who are unable to go in everyday are not at a disadvantage.

understand this is not practical now given you have already laid out the process but going forward may make it easier. this would especially be the case for those doing an offline allocation to make sure everyone can prepare for the draft/auction using the same player list I know we had issues as folks took a datadump on different days to do their preperation.

also, what would make the player stats page immeasurably more useful is a field showing the number of appearances that each player has used up. 250 passes in 5 appearances is obviously far superior than in 10 appearances - the minutes is sort of a proxy but players who come off the bench regulalry get their minutes using far more appearance slots.

PTG - Thanks for your comments. We spent a long time thinking about how to operate the January transfer window and there is no perfect solution, even batching players has it's disadvantages but we have tried to come up with a s solution that is as fair as possible.

With regards to your second comment, this is something we could look to implement in the future.

JC:

would SWP be award with FW eligibility since he's started as a FW in his previous EPL game. Thanks.

PTG - Shaun Wright Phillips now has FW eligibility

Jackson:

What's happening with Zoran Tosic? I'm sure it's been more than 48 hours since he's been added but he's still on notice.

PTG - Apologies, there was a technical issue which caused a delay in the processing of transfers of players added on the evening of Jan 7th. The transfers were processed at around 2pm GMT on Saturday 10th.

Nick:

What`s happening with Jay Simpson? Why hasn`t he been allocated?

PTG - Apologies, there was a technical issue which caused a delay in the processing of transfers of players added on the evening of Jan 7th. The transfers were processed at around 2pm GMT on Saturday 10th.

Raymond:

I think Jagielka should be listed primarily as a defender as oppose to a midfielder. This would make balancing and comparing the squad easier.

PTG - The primary position a player is listed within PTG cannot be changed during the season.
