One new player has been added to PTG on January 13th 2009. The new (or should we say returning) player is James Beattie who has joined Stoke from Sheffield United.
The player was added at around 17:00 GMT on January 13th and is subject to the usual 48 hour notice period.
There are a small number of leagues where Beattie is already associated with a team as he was in the original PTG player lists when we opened the game in mid July. In these cases, other managers in those leagues will not have the opportunity to pick up this player.

My team has one outfield player ranked in the top 50. How can I compete?
PTG - We cannot comment on specific teams/leagues in the blog, and the answer is somewhat dependent on your leagues individual situation. We would advise all managers looking to improve their to team to look at players recent form and to exploit the January transfer window as much as possible. Maybe some other PTG managers will have some advice for you....

Advice to above:
Check the out-of-contract lists heavily. Look for new players, players returning from long injuries (e.g Essien). Also try defences such as Fulham and Everton who get lots of clean sheets. Most importantly, rotate with the fixtures. If a team is playing West Brom, most of the time they'll get a clean sheet and a goal or two).

Seriously though, you cannot have done much ranking of players at the start of the season, or you must have been very unlucky with injuries (eg Fabregas Essien Torres) or form (eg Arsenal defence & Spurs) or both (eg Drogba Terry).
